Join us on the evening of June 15th for a Newfoundland welcome to WILU 2015! Our cocktail-style reception will take place at one of the most interesting spaces in St. John’s, the Suncor Energy Fluvarium. Located on the doorstep of the university, you will enjoy panoramic views of Pippy Park, a lush oasis right in the heart of St. John’s, while sipping wine and enjoying small bites with big Newfoundland flavor. Downstairs, get a fascinating underwater view through nine large windows built right into the side of Nagle’s Hill Brook, and see freshwater fish going about their daily lives in their natural environment.
Live traditional music will be provided by local musicians Dave Panting & Dan Rubin of the acoustic duo Tanglecove. Visit their website to get a musical preview of this talented and accomplished pair!
If the weather cooperates, you may want to put on your walking shoes and stroll over to the reception – a beautiful, woodsy trail takes you around Long Pond from the north side of campus, right to the door of the Fluvarium. The Long Pond trail is just one part of the Grand Concourse, a 160 km urban trail connecting St. John’s with five neighboring municipalities and connecting parks, green spaces, rivers and ponds.
